CLASSIC FAMILY RIVER FLOAT!
If you have a large family and it includes youngsters under age 5 or older adults this is your family river adventure.
Let the guide do all the work while you have some family time. The Family Flotilla is our go-to for scenic flat water quality time on the legendary Clark Fork River. This trip features a sport boat with coolers where you can station a family member with a child age 2+ or an older family member that needs a comfortable seat. Then, you can add individual (single person) or tandem (2 person) inflatable sit-on-top kayaks, and/or a stand up paddle board to switch out family members to venture from the main raft independently for breaks. You get to guide your own craft while following behind the guided raft down the river for this quintessential Montana family river adventure.
This trip is about wildlife viewing, trying out paddling independent watercraft, and relaxing with your little ones. It is a great introductory trip to river floating. We view bald eagles, herons, and osprey on a daily basis and recommend bringing binoculars if you have them. Families view a classic Montana ponderosa pine environment floating through Lolo National Forest. There is potential to see moose, deer, river otters, ducks, and fish. Our guides provide the equipment, risk management and guidance to make it a wonderful river experience tailored to your family’s needs. There is no previous experience necessary to navigate the add on watercrafts since we will be on slow moving water and it makes an awesome family activity with a little exercise to boot! Inflatable kayaking and stand up paddle boarding is a freeing experience, allowing you to not just go down the river but truly explore it. Safe, fun, and suitable for anyone in short doses!
Imagine paddling your kiddo around while they sit on the front of the stand up paddle board and then rest on the raft and have a snack while your older child takes a turn for the first time on their own! The fresh mountain air mixed with gorgeous vistas makes hanging out and jumping in the river a delight. How about a good ol’ fashioned light workout thrown in for good measure?! Half way through the float, we will set up a table with our riverside deli lunch accompanied by fresh fruit sides, salads, and dessert. If that sounds like your perfect day, then the Family Flotilla will be your option!
Check in at Adventure Missoula’s headquarters 30 minutes west of Missoula ½ hour prior to trip departure to meet up with your guide and change into your gear. We will transport your crew to the put in from our private parking lot, and after an orientation with all the gear, you will embark on your flotilla! After your trip, we shuttle your crew back to our shop and changing rooms where you can change into dry clothes and you’ll have a chance to purchase souvenirs.

Why the Clark Fork? Montana is a state of mythic proportions. It is home to 12 tribes that have lived on the land long before European settlers arrived. The name Montana is from the Latin for mountainous. There are at least 100 mountain ranges and sub-ranges and from their slopes run hundreds of creeks and rivers. Perhaps the best-known is the Missouri, which starts in southeastern Montana where the Madison, Gallatin, and Jefferson join. Other legendary rivers include the Yellowstone, Flathead, Bitterroot, the Marias, Kootenay and our home river, the Clark Fork. Of these, we offer trips on three of the most illustrious: The Blackfoot, Bitterroot, and Clark Fork. We invite you to join us in the Big Sky State for some of the best river adventures in the world! From our headquarters on the Clark Fork River we can access multiple classes of rivers stretches making it diverse to offer what we can for our guests.
Our experienced instructors will take you through an equipment check, river safety talk, and instruct you on the fine art of paddling your add on watercrafts. They will be your lead as you head down through the beautiful mountain scenery of the legendary Clark Fork River on this epic family river adventure.
