Trail Ride Missoula Area Details: Hoods Ranch One Hour Ride

Cross it off your bucket list and take a trail ride west of Missoula in traditional rural Alberton, Montana. Meet at a family ranch 35 minutes west of Missoula near Alberton in Mineral County. This trail ride features western cedar larch, white bark pine, spruce, and fir tree ecosystems and their accompanying mammals: golden eagles, herons, deer, ducks, hawks traditional to the local Lolo National Forest. Trail rides are on clearly marked trails and old roads. The rides meanders over easy terrain and gradual hills. This walking trail ride is organized towards beginner and occasional recreational riders.

Wranglers and provided equipment make your ride the best it can be. Guests meet at the ranch, park, and get fitted for saddles and helmets. Participants will then be introduced to their horses and can take advantage of the outhouse prior to departure. At that point, staff load up and trailer the horses 2 miles to the trailhead. Guests are welcome to ride along in the truck or follow in their own vehicle. Although the horseback ride is one hour, please make sure you are able to swing your led over a horse and have the strength to stabilize yourself on a horse for an hours time. In your schedule please allow time for checking in, orientation, and trailhead travel (2 miles away) and back.

Helmets are required for all riders under the age of 18 and optional for adults.

Children must be 8 years and up for this trail ride. Age 12 is preferred. Children between ages 8-12 will be assessed at check in; please consider their confidence, experience, and comfort around horses.

Horses are not strung together. Participants ride independently, no tandem riding with a youngster. Your guide will do a short orientation for you with your horse.

Horses at the ranch have a max weight capacity of 230 pounds. Only one rider in each group can exceed 200 pounds. We limit our rides to six riders at a time.

What to Pack: First aid kit, sunscreen, water, bug spray are all packed for you. We encourage everyone to please wear a hat that fits properly and will not blow off your head. Wear long sleeve shirts, jeans, and close toed shoes, preferably boots with a heel. Do not bring anything loose that could fall from the horse….. purses, water bottles, etc.

Place a Reservation: Make a reservation request for a date and time for this trail ride Missoula! Enter in your information and payment. Our system will save it and we will check our wrangler availability and then confirm it. At that time, you will receive a confirmation via email with a google map to your trail ride location along with other pertinent information.

We will call prior to your trip to check in with you and answer any questions you may have about your trip. Please try to book 3 days out. This gives us time to plan. No cancellations within 72 hours of your trip due to guide planning/staff pay. No shows are charged in full.

Tips: A 20% gratuity is added to groups 5 or more since multiple guides are required. Your very experienced guides will make every effort to see that your trip is enjoyable and successful. Gratuities for guides are greatly appreciated and at your discretion, as a gesture of thanks for their professionalism and service. Please pre-plan, as tips cannot be added to credit cards and there are no ATMs at the family ranch.

Cancellations: We require 72 hours notice for full refund cancellations (Make your decision on day three out from your departure). No refunds for same day cancellations or no shows. We reserve the right to cancel trips with full refund due to weather, horse or guide health, or insufficient guests. No refunds within 72 hours of your trip for staff planning on our end. We will determine if the weather causes us to cancel; dress appropriately.

Terms and Conditions: Participants understand that if we are late, the trip leaves without us.
Participants agree to sign my online waiver(s) no less than one day prior to my activity.
Participants agree everyone in our group is under 200/230lbs and over the age of 8 for safety and insurance reasons. All participants in my party are in good physical condition and will not be intoxicated in any way in order to ride. Participants understand this trip is subject to weather and participants will dress appropriately. I understand this is a walk only ride.
No refunds or date changes within 72 hours of your trip.
We reserve the right to cancel trips with full refund due to weather, water levels, guide health, or insufficient guests. We will try to help with a date change when possible or a reschedule with 72 hours notice. We reserve the right to refuse service for any reason. Same day cancellations or no shows charged in full.
