You get to guide your own craft while following one of our guides down the river for this Montana kayak trip.

This trip is about wildlife viewing and relaxing. We view bald eagles, herons, and osprey on a daily basis and recommend bringing binoculars. Paddlers will see a mostly ponderosa pine environment in Lolo National Forest with potential to see moose, deer, river otters, ducks, and fish. Paddling new technology commercial grade inflatable kayaks is a great option for people wanting to be in charge of their own craft. Our guides provide the equipment, risk management and guidance to make it a wonderful river experience. We have both one and two person kayaks and can select from a variety of sections of river depending on flows. If you are a beginner, try something new and experience the sounds and smells of a river trip close up on a kayak. Kayaking is a unique and exciting way of traversing a river. There is no previous experience necessary and it makes an awesome family activity. Inflatable kayaking is a freeing experience, allowing you to not just go down the river but truly explore it. Safe, fun, and suitable for anyone!

Imagine your perfect summer afternoon… Would it include healthy doses of fresh mountain air mixed with gorgeous vistas? Would it include an invigorating swim in one of the cleanest rivers in the world? How about a good ol’ fashioned light workout thrown in for good measure? Then, when you’ve worked up an appetite worthy of this epic day, throw in an impeccable riverside deli lunch accompanied by fresh fruit sides, salads, and dessert. If that sounds like your perfect day, then this Montana kayak trip is the one for you!

Check in at Adventure Missoula’s headquarters 30 minutes west of Missoula  ½ hour prior to trip departure to meet up with your guide and change into your gear. We paddle 2.5 miles, have lunch, take a break and swim, and then paddle the other 2.5 miles to the take out. Then you will be shuttled back to our shop and changing rooms where you will regain your land legs, head to your car and have a chance to purchase souvenirs!

Kayak Adventure

What is it like? These maneuverable, resilient inflatable kayaks offer one of the most exciting ways to ride and float on the river. Inflatable kayaks ride low in the water making even small waves fun. They are easier to navigate than pack rafts.

Our experienced instructors will take you through an equipment check, river safety talk, and instruct you on the fine art of paddling an inflatable kayak. They will be your lead as you head down through the beautiful mountain scenery of the legendary Clark Fork River.

If you’re not ready for the over, under, and upside down that a whitewater kayak provides, but are tired of lumbering along in a large raft, then inflatable kayaks are the way to go! You don’t need huge waves to have fun on an inflatable kayak, you will enjoy every little eddy, little wave, or riffle in the river. As you travel downstream you will get to practice your skills, see wildlife and just enjoy the ride.

Coronavirus Update from Adventure Missoula

We are incredibly proud of the way our co-workers and our clients have turned a very difficult period during the coronavirus pandemic into a demonstration of our resilience and togetherness.  Let’s keep at it.

Adventure Missoula has always offered and will continue to offer private rafting, fishing, and horseback riding. Our focus has not changed in the pandemic, but the experience has simply highlighted our dedication to this.

Our COVID19 Information page is updated as needed as we monitor the ever-changing Coronavirus situation as well as the Missoula County website.

These are challenging days for many in the world. We ask that you please consider supporting Adventure Missoula, and the vulnerable tourism industry, by rescheduling your trip rather than cancelling. Your support helps not only our team in the Missoula area and our families, but our partners around the Northwest area, including the Missoula Valley and communities where we operate. We are so grateful to our loyal community of travelers who are telling us that they still want to travel – just not right now. When you are ready to join us again in a new era of travel, we are here for you. There will, of course, be changes in how we operate. Please view them on our information page. but our mission of Providing Good Times, with a Sense of Responsibility continues to motivate us and we remain as committed as ever to sharing this marvelous area of the world intimate, authentic, and private trips and excursions.

A short note from the Forsythe Family:

We know that we are not alone in our struggles, and we appreciate everyone that has reached out to us during this time. We want to express our gratitude to all the health care workers and those who provided essential services who continue to provide the services we all need. Thank you.

For 44years Adventure Missoula and our sister company, CDA Adventures, have been sharing the joy of meaningful, life-enriching outdoor experiences. We’ve been through a number of difficult times, but like most people, have never experienced anything that has impacted so many people in so many ways, all around the globe.

We want to reassure you that our first priority is the health and wellbeing of our guests, our employees and our greater travel community. We are in constant contact with our local agencies, guides, and staff to keep current of changes as they occur.

As a family owned and operated company, we are doing our best to make sound decisions that are fair, and in the best interest of everyone given coronavirus. We thank you for navigating these difficult times with us. Thank you for valuing outdoor experiences and the positive changes it provides the world.

Spring 2020 River Shop Remodel in Progress

We set aside some money last year to remodel our little river shop. We decided to look coronavirus in the face and do it anyway!!! Adventure Missoula’s river shop now has three buildings (mostly built in 2019), but they were skin and bones and staff and owners knew we could make it dynamite with some creativity, a thousand bucks, and some hard work.

Here is what has happened this spring with more to come through the summer depending on how busy with customers and our ability to social distance with COVID19.

Check out the video featuring our new rooftop garden! We worked hard last year, and refined it further. We’ll post updates on our facebook and instagram feeds for you to enjoy @adventuremissoula.

We built a place for our staff to stay overnight when they do back to back trips. Some of our staff get up at 6am for fishing trips, rig their gear, greet guests, spend 8 hours on the water, and then unpack, clean dishes, repack, and by then it’s 11pm. We love them and want them to have a painted room with soft beds and a beautiful office to check in and utilize. More to come on this project, but the beds are in as is the paint and office=we promise it will be pinterest worthy by July.

We’ve been leveling our property, created a fire pit for staff and guests, thinned trees, burned our slash piles, and gave the kitchen a make over. Lots in progress….more pictures and updates to come on this fabulous river shop remodel! Owner Sara Forsythe said: “I can’t crawl into a hole and cry, some days I do….but I have to wake up everyday to know the future will be bright again someday and I need to know that I gave it my all.”

Trevor Smith, fishing guide and whitewater guide is excited to head to Colorado for a month, to work on an elk calf capture project so he stopped in to help out Jared hang drywall with their masks on. His research will help biologists monitor declining elk populations and track survival of newborn calves. Afterwards, he’s looking forward to getting back to Montana and enjoying some of our state’s best whitewater and fishing with the Adventure Missoula crew!

In case anyone is curious, the youngest of our crew, Andrew, painted every board for the bedrooms and helped screw them together. He also refined his Lemonade stand and Cyr Recreation Area River Put In Shoppe to greet customers and river recreators with a shiny new paint job “when the people come.” He’ll have cookies, drinks, water fill ups, and more. Stay healthy and we love and miss you all.

Adventure Missoula staff rock their off season jobs

Adventure Missoula receives a slew of applications to work with our company every year and become an Adventure Missoula staff member. We work hard to accept a handful of amazing people to outfit our company full time during the river season. This allows us to give travelers and visitors the best authentic Montana experience on our area’s rivers that we can provide. Knowledge, enthusiasm, thirst for changing the human’s impact on our environment, and conservation lead our team. Great personalities and humor encourage us to want to come back year after year; as small family of outdoor enthusiasts that enjoy the break from our rat race ‘real jobs’ to enjoy the bounty the earth provides and share that feeling, that connection we all crave to make life meaningful.

While our company was closed during the stay at home orders throughout the coronavirus pandemic, our staff remained positive and working their incredible jobs and experiences; waiting for the opportunity to gather together and once again share the river with you.

Here is what they have been up to:

Trevor Smith: Trevor has been using his time off to get outdoors as much as possible and enjoy fishing around Missoula. Springtime fishing has been really productive so far, with several great days on the water and fish rising for skwala dry flies. In a few weeks he’s excited to head to Colorado for a month, to work on an elk calf capture project. This research will help biologists monitor declining elk populations and track survival of newborn calves. Afterwards, he’s looking forward to getting back to Montana and enjoying some of the states’ best whitewater and fishing with the Adventure Missoula crew!

Adventure Missoula Staff

Jessica Raty: Jess was born and raised in Montana and grew up splashing around in the Yellowstone River. She just graduated from the University of Montana with a B.S. in Resource Conservation and a B.A. in Political Science and is excited to put her degrees to good use as a raft guide at Adventure Missoula. Jess hopes to eventually attend graduate school for something related to environmental policy, but she’s pretty happy staying on the river for now. When she is not running the Clark Fork as an Adventure Missoula staff, Jess can be found trail running or playing jammin’ tunes on her recorder.

Adventure Missoula Staff

Kyler Tingey: Kyler has skied more than 100 days and counting this winter! At the beginning of the season, Kyler set a goal to ski 100 days and he reached that goal last week. With the warmer weather Kyler has also been getting out on the mountain bike and rock climbing (at a safe distance from others of course). He and his wife have taken quarantine as an opportunity to clean up trash from popular areas in our local mountains. (Thank you Kyler!!!)

Jared Forsythe: Jared is gearing up to train and implement safety precautions for post COVID19 operations with his wife, Sara. He teaches high school Biology, Wildlife, and Forestry when not taking clients down the water. Virtual high school has been difficult. Jared spends long hours on the computer scanning paper handouts and creating new interactive educational experiences for his students that include answering questions mid presentation and interactive video conferencing. Jared has been painting, burning slash piles on the property, and spearheading our spring construction projects on the weekends!
